Boasting one of the world’s most renowned natural landscapes, the famous waterfalls, is impressive but not sufficient. Foz do Iguaçu aims to showcase its diverse offerings beyond the falls. Indeed, the city has much to offer, with more on the horizon.
Situated in western Paraná and home to 285,000 residents, Foz do Iguaçu has expanded its attractions for tourists over recent years.
According to the Municipal Tourism Secretariat, the average stay of tourists in the region was 1.5 days two decades ago. Thanks to newly created attractions, the current average stay has increased to 3.5 days, with the goal of extending it to 7 days.
A regular among the top five most visited destinations by foreigners in Brazil, Foz added an 88-meter Ferris wheel three years ago, matching the size of Rio’s, along with Wonder Park, a theme park featuring a museum of iconic vehicles from cinema and TV.
In haute cuisine, the Y restaurant, helmed by chef Luiz Felipe Souza from São Paulo’s Evvai, opened last month. The restaurant offers a reinterpretation of national classics, resulting in dishes like green feijoada and char-grilled carabiner shrimp with capixaba moqueca.
By 2025, a 23,000-square-meter aquarium is set to open, focusing on the hydrographic basins of Iguaçu and Paraná.
