Experience the wonders of the Amazon Rainforest through guided canoe excursions and hikes with expert naturalist guides. This region, renowned as one of the world’s most captivating wildlife destinations, offers an unparalleled adventure. Cruises start and finish in Manaus, Brazil.
Designed to foster a welcoming atmosphere, the small group size allows passengers to become acquainted quickly, creating a sense of home in the heart of the Amazon. Our multilingual, knowledgeable hosts are eager to share detailed insights into the wildlife, flora, and the unique Amazonian way of life.
Departing from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas State and a city that flourished during the rubber boom, travelers can choose between two four-day cruise options. One explores Jau National Park, while the other journeys up the Rio Negro. Both itineraries include the mesmerizing “Meeting of the Waters,” where the dark Rio Negro and the sandy-colored Amazon River flow side by side without mixing for miles.
The cruises also feature small-boat excursions deep into the jungle, led by specialized guides who will highlight the region’s unique flora and fauna. Activities such as piranha fishing and visits to local river communities provide an immersive Amazonian experience.
Begin your journey by departing from Manaus pier at 2:00 PM to board the M/V Desafio, your floating hotel for the next three nights. Upon arrival, a multilingual naturalist guide will host a “Welcome to the Amazon” briefing, introducing the rich biodiversity, unique ecology, and history of the region. The cruise sets sail toward “Tres Bocas,” part of the Anavilhanas Archipelago, the largest river archipelago in the world, characterized by its lakes, islands, creeks, and flooded forests. Enjoy dinner onboard before heading out in motorized canoes for an evening excursion to experience the jungle’s sounds and atmosphere.
Start your day early at 5:30 AM with a boat ride to witness the sunrise and hear the diverse songs of the forest birds. After breakfast, embark on a motorized canoe ride to a trailhead for a guided jungle walk, focusing on the flora and fauna of the area. Return to the ship for lunch while cruising toward the Terra Preta Indigenous community. Visit this community to learn about their lifestyle and customs. Continue navigating toward the village of Jaraqui. Enjoy a river expedition by canoe, followed by a jungle trek to explore the rich biodiversity. Return to the ship for dinner.
After breakfast, sail to the local village of Acajatuba. Along the way, stop at the floating station “Recanto dos Botos” to interact with pink river dolphins and feed the famous Pirarucu fish, also known as the “cod of the Amazon.” Enjoy lunch onboard while navigating the Negro River toward the confluence of the Solimões and Negro rivers, famously known as the “Meeting of the Waters.” Here, the two rivers flow side by side without mixing for miles, forming the Amazon River. Proceed to Janauari Lake for an adventurous piranha fishing experience. After dinner, embark on a nighttime canoe ride to search for caimans and other nocturnal creatures using flashlights. Return to the ship for an overnight stay.
After a tropical breakfast, head out to see the giant Amazonian water lilies and further explore the Negro River. Return to the ship to begin the journey back to Manaus, arriving in the city at approximately 11:00 AM, marking the end of your Amazon adventure.
